Australian man to be put to death in Vietnam

New South Wales traveller, Tony Manh, 40, will be executed in Vietnam following an unsuccessful appeal in the People's Court of Appeals in Ho Chi Minh City.

Manh was found guilty of trying to traffic almost 1kg of heroin after he was arrested at the Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City. Manh had the drugs strapped to his body and was trying to get a plane home to Sydney.

Manh was reportedly to be paid $US10,000 by Vietnamese drug manufacturers to get the drug to Australia.

The Sydney man has just seven more days to appeal for leniency from Vietnamese President Mguyen Minh Triet.

Drug offences in Vietnam account for almost 100 executions every year.
