Though most children in Tibet run around in fake-Nike hats and leftover expedition clothes, I noticed that this hat was actually a bit special.
On the hat the Buddhist deer and Dharma wheel are embroidered. The deer stand for the Buddha's first teachings in the Deer Park, apparently so peaceful that even the deer came to listen to him. Monasteries that contain the Kangyur and Tengyur texts scrolls have this symbol of the 2 deer on each side of the Dharma-wheel on their roof.
So somewhere someone has found a way to make money of the Buddhist symbols; but how this child came to wear it I don't know as they normally have no money for clothes, but at least wearing their own culture is better than a big Swoosh...
