At least one US carrier may ground some of its aircraft to cut fuel expenses, with others expected to follow suit.
United Airlines may ground up to 100 planes in order to cut fuel costs, according to a Sun-Herald report.
Other major carriers including American Airlines and Northwest Airlines are also considering grounding aircraft, the report said.
We have a little over 100 unencumbered aircraft that we could ground, sell, whatever we needed to if the demand environment were such that it didn't make sense to fly, Jake Brace, United's chief financial officer, told investors.
There have also been reports in the US that airlines may have deliberately under-fuelled planes to reduce weight, making them less expensive to fly. - Travelpress travel news
